Wonderful! saved me so much money and my pups love it! March 15, 2010 Maiko Kanahashi (Manila, Philippines) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have 3 chihuahuas (2 boys and 1 girl) and I live in a condominium. Prior to the Pet Loo, they were trained to use potty pads while I'm out. This was fine when i had one chihuahua but as I added my other 2 kids, buying the pads became costly. Also, when they use the pads, they get their feet wet or the wee will flow out of the pad on to the bathroom floor. So my fiancee and I looked for an alternative and found this.
I let the dogs inspect the product first then put them on the grass. Then, I took one of the soiled pee pads and rubbed it on the grass. I then removed all the pads and placed the Pet Loo where the pads where. I put the dogs on the grass again one by one making sure they smell the pee that I rubbed on it. By the end of the day, they were using the pad to pee. It took them a 3-4 days more to figure out it was safe to poop on it too. I was so proud and happy because they love it. oh and the boys will pee on it too even if they're used to lifting their leg, they do a combination of squatting and lifting their leg.
PROS:
1. Unlike the other products like the Pet Loo, the plastic foundation is very strong. we travel with it often. it's not flimsy at all and can support the weight of a large dog.
2. It's easy to clean. other products don't have the drainage system that the pet loo has (the cabinet you can remove that contains the wee)
3. It decreases the smell. when using puppy pads, pee is left out in the open and it smells really bad if you don't get to it right away.
4. The dogs don't get their paws wet. since the wee is drained, their feet aren't soaked in it.
5. My dogs found it a no-brainer. they understood what it was, they frequently go on grass so they got it right away. just train them and praise them. don't give up!
6. It's an investment. I don't have to rely on buying pads!
7. Lessens wastage. I don't have to throw away the pads (because I'm not using them) and it lessens garbage (as well as the smell of the garbage)
CONS:
1. You have to buy a separate synthetic grass pad. You must wash the grass and it's helpful to have an extra one to put there while you're drying out the other. BUT this isn't the only reason. the Grass that comes with this order is of poor quality. it just feels like plastic (from thin plastic bags). the separate grass i got from this how ever was nicer and stronger
2. when you first buy it or clean it, the grass will shed quite frequently. I've had it for a while and there's no bald patches but for the first few times, you'll have strands of green plastic falling off
Overall, we are very happy with this product and wish we had it a long time ago. :)
Great product. Just needs a bit of diligence in cleaning and location February 11, 2010 B. Lai (San Francisco, CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My pup has been on this for the past 5 months. He had originally been trained to go outside which he still does today but he has also come to understand that it's okay to go on the loo if going outdoors is not an option. Since he was already trained to go outdoors, I imagine that impeded somewhat with his recognition to go on the loo. He did have a few accidents before he finally 'got it' that it was ok if he wasn't going to get to go outdoors. The product itself is of mixed quality. The base is nice and sturdy, definitely of superior material than many other potty products out there. The grass that came with it, however, was definitely of lower weight. It does lose bits here and there when hosed down and the dog was reluctant to go on it vs going on higher quality grass at first. But it finally worked out.
Be warned though, that the product does smell if not properly cleaned (duh). Running warm/hot water through helps rinse out excess urine but sometimes, even that may not be enough. Take out the grass for a full hosing weekly and have replacement grass available while one dries. That, plus generous spraying of water + vinegar + nature's miracle has worked nicely. My dog doesn't care if the loo smells of vinegar, but yours might. Try baking soda instead if so. When hosing the grass, be sure to fully hose down the back. I find that the black plastic backing is the main culprit in absorbing odour. You can punch in more holes in the backing to aide in more drainage or buy replacement grass that are deemed k9grass - those have much larger holes in the matting.
If you have the extra cash or a place where drainage is possible, the porch potty might be a more convenient option. The pet loo is otherwise great for indoors, or areas with no access to drains.
Switching to a different potty! January 10, 2010 J. Barenblit (Los Angeles) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I have had this pet loo for 3months and I am fed up with this thing! It is too hard to clean and even if I use natures miracle or bleach I can still smell the urine in the synthetic grass. The synthetic grass fell apart when I was cleaning it. The pet loo does have a tray to hold the liquid but the tray is too hard to clean. I followed the full instructions on how to clean the pet loo and it didn't work. I had to purchase another synthectic grass that also fell apart. In full aspect this is a great idea but not fully thought out. It was a really expensive purchase and it worked for the first month but keeping it longer is not an option especially since we are on the go all the time. I spend to much time cleaning this system and messy! Buy the PORCH POTTY it is so easy!!!
Pet Loo December 7, 2009 David Harvey (Danbury Ct) Well as for the purchase price for this product, i received an amazing price from the seller. As for the product itself, i believe its a great idea but needs more work. The grass comes off too easily, and you really have to put in the time to train your dog to use this as opposed to its normal potty area. Don't expect to get this product and throw it on the ground and expect fluffy to use it, cause that just wont happen.
Had it for two years and my dog still loves it! November 21, 2009 Sailorgirl We've had the Pet Loo for more than two years and it's great. My dog was not potty trained using it, but has no problems going pee on it. It's great for us since we live in an apartment in the city. Very convenient and my dog loves it.
