2 out of 5 stars Note: this is an EXTERNAL Filter   August 18, 2010
Min (USA)
I bought this filter to replace a different one when I couldn't find the exact same product. The description does not mention that this is an EXTERNAL FILTER--most of the body of the filter hangs outside the tank. Of course this does not work when the back of your small aquarium has a hinged lid, and indeed when you perch it on a side or front of the aquarium because your fish are desperate for filtration, the lid will NOT CLOSE because the filter stands over 2 inches above the rim of the tank. I am upset about this setup and finally found the correct replacement filter; I will only use this until the new one arrives so our fish don't die. I don't know what sort of tank this would work with, it seems like most aquariums would need some sort of lid??

It does seem to work fairly well and isn't very noisy...but I think it's a poor design.

1 out of 5 stars Not enough power to keep 10 gallon aquarium clean with 1 goldfish   December 14, 2009

I have 1 goldfish in a 10 gallon aquarium. I threw all of the gravel out becuase the filter does not keep the aquarium clean. I only have 1 fish and no gravel in the aquarium and the excrement is still in the bottom of the aquarium. Would not recommend this item.

Product works well. I use it for my betta tank. Flow of water can be a little strong for the bettas. Due to this, I wish this product had a way to control the water flow.
