AWESOME PRODUCT! September 5, 2010 Alisa Robards (Palatine, IL United States) I read a bunch of reviews before I went out and bought the Furminator. I had talked to groomers who swore by it and we have a Schipperke who sheds constantly. I have spent probably $100 on regular slicker brushes and none did the trick. Besides, the dog would get bored and walk away, especially when I got to his back legs. I didn't get the Furminator from Amazon, but bought it for a higher price in the pet store. Still, it was worth the price I paid for it. I got the medium sized one for long haired dogs, so it has the 2.65" edge. It said "for dogs with hair longer than 2 inches" and even though my Skipp has hair approximately that long, that is the one I purchased.
OH MY GOSH this is the BEST comb I have ever used. I took him outside and put him up on a table and started brushing. Small strokes along his back and sides and the hair flew out. I had to finally turn him facing into the wind a bit so the hair I couldn't catch would fly away. I know this sounds like b.s. but it's true. It came out so quickly that I couldn't catch everything. And the usually "comb shy" dog stood quietly while I brushed him. I realize being up on a table helps, because he can't just walk away, but he didn't shake or act nervous at all either. I brushed him for about 5-10 minutes and then brought him in and gave him a cookie, but not before he ran around the back yard excitedly, showing off his shiny coat.
I am going to buy the one here for shorter coats, which is less than half what I spent on it, just to have another one in the house, for the winter when he doesn't have as long of an undercoat and I can brush him inside.
If you have any hesitation about buying this product, don't. Just make sure you match it up with the length of the coat. You wouldn't want one for long coated dogs if you have short coated dogs and vice versa.
It really IS all it is hyped up to be!
Great tool to groom your dog. Be gentle with short haired breeds September 4, 2010 Donna Rubio (Oklahoma City, OK USA) The Furminator is a great tool to groom you dog. I have a mixed breed dog with both, an outer coat and very fine under coat. She is a Dobie-Shepherd mix. You don't need to use too much pressure with this grooming tool to be effective. It removes loose hair without alot of work or stress on you dog.
Great grooming tool September 3, 2010 Hepsibeth (Maine) My cat would try to eat whatever I was combing him with until the FURminator. He loves it and lets me brush him out every day. Amazing how much fur comes out of him. This means less fur balls being barfed up (sorry! lol). I do wish I hadn't bought the deluxe. Having that little ejection button to drop the hair off the brush isn't very effective. I just pull it off anyways. When I went to my vet, they were selling this exact item! Overall, I am very happy with this purchase.
The BEST! September 3, 2010 Amazon Fan NY I purchased this product to groom my short haired chihuahua and I LOVE it...so does she. We've tried different brushes, coarse bristles, softer bristles...and even other deshedding tools. NONE of them compare to the FURminator deLuxe. This thing rocks. My dog enjoys being brushed and sits still for the whole process...she hates when it's over. The best feature is that the hair is collected in the in the head of the tool and with a simple press of the button it is easily ejected. No more struggling to clean out bristles or hair flying everywhere. It really is a must have!
Not for all pets August 31, 2010 golSquared This thing works GREAT on my roommates dogs, but not on my beagle/pit mix. One of their dogs is a long haired dog, and the other short, like my pup, but he has an undercoat so it actually pulls out his hair. I guess it was one of those hit and miss things, but I wish I would have known that there was a chance it wouldn't work BEFORE I dropped the money on it. Also, the "FURejector" kind of sticks (the button is really short) and it's not ergonomic if the dog isn't facing the right direction. One last thing: I've heard that it actually cuts the hair and that's why it's so effective (not a good thing if you like to obsessively brush), but I haven't researched this. I have yet to find something that curbs my dog's shedding hair...
